Lots of cutting. Lots of welding. Lots of swearing.

Very familiar, this. I've been stalled for a couple of weeks on some Falcon firewall and rocker work - fortunately my forward subframe rails weren't rusted, but the structure as a whole is just like that. Hopefully I'll get some welding done Saturday.

I love welding but this kind of welding/rust give me nightmares.

Wanna trade repairs? I get to spend tomorrow afternoon/night installed a new subframe, new bushings and new steering rack into my Mk5 Jetta. Can't believe all that is going bad and there's only 115,000 miles on her

Lucky! Are you getting Repro parts or just fabbing it up?

I am buying mass amounts of steak and bacon to grille as comfort food.

I do not envy you in the slightest. The replacement part I wouldn't mind too much, but trying to get the engine and suspension/steering put back together after?! O_O

The Falcon floorboards were $240 a side + shipping, but CJ Pony had a *set* of first-gen Mustang ones, with toe boards, with subframe replacements, with seat boxes, and with drain plugs for $270 shipped. After making sure they'd fit, it was a no-brainer. The door post and rocker end repair I'm having to fab up, but the floorboards and subframe are dead easy.
